iPhone Film Festival

I'm a huge supporter of DIY and creative filmmaking - especially when it comes to documentaries with limited budgets and/or limited technical resources.  I'm pleased to spread the word that an iPhone film contest is currently underway.  Yes, it has a non-fiction category! That means all of you travelers out there can enter stories about the people and places you're visiting.  No iPhone?  Videos shot on the iPad and iPod Touch are also acceptable.

It's been said many times before that, "the best camera is the one you have with you."  We never know when photo (or video) opportunities will strike.  And unfortunately for most of us, we're not always able to keep our favorite camera within arm's reach 24/7.  However, the majority of us now have smartphones that are capable of taking stylish photographs and decent video.  Professional photographers have even used the Instagram app to create funky, "modern-vintage" gallery exhibits.  They also use it to stay in touch with friends and fans through social network sites while on field assignments; offering sneak peeks of their latest work.  The video capability on most smartphones is still a noticeable downgrade from professional cameras, but has a certain charm to it when done well.

There's no time like the present to start filming.  Take a look around and share what you find most interesting.  Most importantly: have fun!
